Study in Hong Kong as an exchange student

Hi!

Currently, I am in Hong Kong as an exchange student. I will live there only for 4 months.

My first assumption was; the locals from Hong Kong would not be able to speak or understand english or pu tong hua (chinese language). I thought, " I am so doom!"

It is because when I was young (may be around 2008), I went there for a vacation and found out that many of them were unable to speak english or chinese. They spoke cantonese most of the time, even if they understand chinese, they would still reply you in cantonese.

However, after 10 years, I realised that, there are many changes in Hong Kong. Many people are more well educated. There are many english and chinese speakers around the whole country! I am so thankful for that. Finally there's a reduce in language barrier!

Anyway, in the month of September, Hong Kong is experiencing rainy season. Almost everyday, it would rain! The rain doesn't stop for a while. It lasted for like hours! So if you are planning to visit Hong Kong, don't forget to bring your umbrella along!

I am studying in Technological Higher Education Institute (THEi). It is a new school which was established in 2012. Not many people including the locals know about this school. It isn't a well known school but i feel that this school has the potential to grow and becoming a good school that is able nature their students in the right way. If you want to study engineering or technological education, this school is for you! Moreover, THEi is the first school that establishes "public relation" course in Hong Kong. If you are really interested in studying PR (public relation), you can come and study here as well. I cannot say that this school is the best place to study. But, I can assure you that the teachers here are very kind and caring towards their students. No matter how difficult the task is, they will try to solve your problem.

If you are planning to study in Hong Kong, be mentally prepared that even though the locals know how to speak english or chinese, they would still reply you in cantonese because it is still difficult for them to actually create a sentence structure and communicate to you. Sometimes they are rude. They would push you and did not apologize but this only applied to a small minority. So dont you worry!

Overall, studying in Hong Kong is not that bad afterall. I can't say it is the best country to pursue your education. But if you are interested to live and curious about the chinese country, may be this is a suitable place for you.

P.s. I will write more about its tourist attractions, food and may be a little about their culture. I will continue about my life too. It's pending!
